This performance titled "thus speaks, shabab mohammad kabir, with this piece, I trans*cend" is a ritual in becoming a baul-fakir (a sonic mystic from Bangladesh that transgresses between multiple faiths and cosmologies) in fulfillment of a BA from Grinnell College. This contemporary take on the ritual will include original dance, music, projection mapping, and the formation of spirit contact.
2025 | Ngeruak: A Plea to Build, ghOstMiSt
ghOstMiSt
(Dance: Dewa Ayu Eka Putri; Music: Putu Tangkas Adi Hiranmayena)
ghOstMiSt is a Balinese experimental duo that uses reflexive improvisation as way to interrogate cultural contradiction and reclaim performance place. Dewa Ayu Eka Putri and I started this duo as a critique of traditional frames of value judgement. By enacting performative inquiries of Balinese-ness we question spiritual and cosmological epistemologies of performance. It is important that we teach through community-based methods and engage in diverse participation in efforts to create works of art that promote creativity, while understanding historical privilege to address social and philosophical issues.
2025 | RESISTANCE, produced by the Ecotheatre Lab
The EcoTheatre Lab
The EcoTheatre Lab is an arts collective, based in Ames, Iowa.
Our artistic leadership team partners with fellow artists, organizations, and community members -- locally and regionally -- to produce arts events that build community and engage audiences in sustainability conversations. We approach our work from an asset-based perspective, examining the many assets that exist within our communities and identifying ways to amplify and build on those assets through art.
